Mark went out before me and said he was mucho overpowered on his 4.7 (even
though he weighs 100kg+) - the windiest day since he arrived 10 weeks ago.
So flattened off my 4.6 completely and was expecting a struggle....
Turned out though that I was never really overpowered. Wind was up and
down, and very strong sometimes, but I've found the 4.6/78L wave board
combo very easy to keep in control even if it's honking. Really like that
board. Hope I can carry on sailing it each day until I leave. So, I was
just right most of the time, even a bit underpowered occasionally like for
my last run in when I didn't really get planing and drifted a long way
downwind, leaving me with a long swim/wade back in to the beach (arse...).
Again nothing particularly special performance wise, but generally a good
sail in nice windy conditions. Made all of the 3 gybes I went for on the
inside quite comfortably with slightly better exits, and one nice tack as
well, which with being on a 78L board I was quite chuffed with. Gybes on
the outside were not so good but getting better. Waves were too
small/non-existent for wave riding. Also with the tide being high, right up
to the beach, there was the usual big wind shadow on the inside, so going
for wave-riding and lots of gybes on the flatter water on the inside wasn't
really possible. As always, looking forward to low tide in the afternoons
when there will be more wind on the inside so that I can really go for some
new stuff before I leave.
